Tuesday's Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority
symposium shed plenty of light on both the need for regional unity
and for educating the public on its benefits.
The most vocal critics of the Northwest Indiana Regional
Development Authority see the government body as expensive and
unneeded, if not downright subversive.
The nuts and bolts of consolidating transit systems running in
four northern Indiana counties would be a massive undertaking and
would create a bus/rail transit system unlike anything in the
state.

In my very first remarks to the board of directors of the
Quality of Life Council at the Sept. 4 quarterly meeting, I shared
the inspiring words of Australian poet, Adam Lindsay Gordon, who
wrote:

The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority is
undeniably at a crossroads. Porter County's secession attempt is
short-sighted.
What is the RDA?
The Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority was established as a means of fostering regional cooperation on major regional projects, including expanding transportation options and shoreline development aimed at increasing public access to Lake Michigan. The RDA leverages local funding to provide the local match for state and federal grants.
