What is LakeNET?
LakeNET is a Web site that links to more than 1,200 sites with valuable information about Lake County, the Northwest Indiana region, the state of Indiana and more.
Lynn Jackson, LakeNET coordinator, said her goal is "to gather, organize and publish as much information as possible about Lake County on the World Wide Web so that the citizens of Lake County as well as the world will know what our communities have to offer. It is a great, comprehensive resource."
Jackson recommends that you start your search with LakeNET, www.lakenetnwi.net, when you are looking for local events or things to do in Northwest Indiana.
LakeNET is a cooperative effort by representatives of several organizations in Lake County including the Lake County Public Library, Indiana University Northwest, Lake Area United Way, Northwest Indiana Internet Access Committee and The Times, which provides server space.
Some new additions to LakeNET are the utilities, real estate and Lake County history links. To access these links go to www.lakenetwi.net and click on one of these links that LakeNET has to offer.
LakeNET also creates, updates and posts free Web sites for nonprofit organizations in Northwest Indiana. Benefits of having an organizational Web site include the ability to refer clients to your informational brochures via the Internet, to post job openings, list services and have instant access via e-mail.
