HEGEWISCH

Knights of Columbus hold pancake breakfast

CHICAGO -- The General Pulaski Council No. 3323 Knights of Columbus will hold a pancake breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 26, at the St. Columba Social Center, 13323 S. Greenbay Ave., in Hegewisch. Plenty of parking, including handicap-accessible, is available. The all-you-can-eat breakfast, served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., includes pancakes, eggs cooked to order, French toast, sausage, milk, coffee and orange juice. HIGHLAND - Congregation Beth Israel, 2939 Jewett St., ushers in the high holy days with Selichot on Sept. 11. Rabbi Raphael Ostrovsky speaks on "The New Year: Mattie Stepanek Meets with Oprah - His Legacy and its Impact" at 9:30 p.m., refreshments will be served by the Sisterhood at 10:30 p.m., and the Selichot Service is at 11:15 p.m. For information, call (219)923-1818.

HIGHLAND - Congregation Beth Israel, 2939 Jewett St., hosts services for Rosh Hashanah at the Jewis Federation Community Building beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 15. THORNTON - Thornton United Methodist Church will offer a sloppy joes fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at the church, 712 Chicago Rd. LANSING - The Board of Family Life Ministries of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a Life of Distinction seminar for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11at the Clipper Room above the Harbor Pavilion at the Hammond Marina. Concordia Seminary professor Bryan Salminen and his wife Casey will facilitate. Transforming relationships into something that gives glory to God is the focus of the seminar. Chabad of Northwest Indiana has scheduled its High Holiday Services in anticipation of the Jewish New Year Sept. 16 and 17. Services will be held on Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, Sept. 16 and 17 and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, Sept. 24 and 25.
