Brookfield Zoo's $8 million exhibit offers nearly 4 acres of outdoor interactive "mud" (concrete) trails past animal lairs, as well as a leafy indoor habitat for species partial to year-round humidity. Indoor types include a pair of Lady Ross' turacos, millipedes, baboon spiders and ball pythons. A dwarf crocodile lies at the bottom of a room-size glass tank designed to resemble a slow-running stream. The zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily at First and 31st streets. Admission is free with regular zoo admission of $7 for adults; $3.50 for children ages 3 to 11 and senior citizens; and free for children 2 and younger. Parking is $4.
