TRAIN DISPLAY | Lake Station
Hi-Rail Modular Train Club will meet from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 2 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at Boys & Girls Club of Lake Station, 4700 Central Ave. Members hail from Indiana and Illinois and the public is welcome to attend and see the display of three rail model trains running together.

DECORATING CONTEST | Lake Station
Lake Station Chamber of Commerce sponsors it's annual Christmas Decorating Contest, with judging Dec. 16. Citizens interested in having their homes placed on the list to be judged are asked to call the mayor's office at (219) 962-2081 and leave their name and address. There will be cash prizes awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners and Honorable Mention certificates distributed. There will also be a separate contest for the businesses.

MUSIC NIGHT | Lowell
Listen and dance to bluegrass, gospel and country music from 6 to 10:00 p.m. Dec. 8 at VFW Post 6841, 17401 Morse St. Food is available at 4 p.m. Door prizes. Donation is asked at the door. Hall is handicapped accessible.

CALLING ALL MILITARY | Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake Lions Club and American Legion Post 261 are seeking needy military families of service men and women currently deployed overseas to receive holiday baskets for Christmas. Additional monetary donations are welcome to continue this program after the holidays.

MINIATURE BUILDING | Crown Point
Greater Crown Point Chamber of Commerce, located in the Old Courthouse, has a miniature replica of the Carnegie Center building, formerly the Crown Point Library, for sale to the public. Cost is $55; purchase five and get one free. Three other miniature buildings are available, the Old Courthouse, the Sheriff's House and St. Mary Church, as well as South Shore posters of the Old Courthouse for $25, ornaments, tote bags, postcards and other gift items.
