PLAY AUDITION | Crown Point
Crown Point Community Theatre is holding auditions for Shakespeare's romantic comedy, "As You Like It," from 7 to 10 p.m. May 19 and 20 at St John's United Church of Christ, 1288 S. Indiana Ave. Funny banter, mistaken identities, a bit of violence and danger, and lovers triumphant - specially designed to be friendly to actors and audiences who might be afraid of Shakespeare. No prepared readings are necessary, and dress comfortably. Performances will be July 11, 12, 18, 19, & 20 at On the Square Sports Academy.

BOOK TALK | DeMotte
Book Discussion Group meets at 2 or 7 p.m. May 20 at the DeMotte Library, 901 Birch St. SW, to discuss the novel "The Book of Bright Ideas" by Sandra King. Delve into the fast friendship that bonds 9-year-old Evelyn Peters to the high-spirited teenage Malone sisters in 1961 and the mysteries that are revealed in one fateful summer.Refreshments will be served. GOLF OUTING | Crown Point

YOUTH COUNCIL | Cedar Lake
The Cedar Lake Youth Council, whose members learn about local government and work toward improvements in the community, welcomes all junior and senior high school students as members. There are nine voting members, one from each political precinct in the town and one each from Hanover and Center townships outside the town limits. Nonvoting members are also welcome. The group meets at 6 p.m. May 18 and the third Sunday of each month and is led by Parks Superintendent Mary Joan Dickson and Town Council member Robert Carnahan. Topics include roadside cleanup recap, paper retriever, summer concert and fundraisers for a skateboard park.

ANNUAL SALE | Gary
Miller Garden Club will host its Annual Plant Sale from 8 to 11 a.m. May 17 in front of the Miller Beach Home and Lumber Center, 875 Lake St. Members bring plants divided from their gardens or started from seed, including hostas, day lilies, tomatoes, peppers, and basil, as well as garden books, tools, knickknacks and baked goods. Proceeds are used to beautify public lands in Gary.

BMX OPEN HOUSE | Portage
Steel Wheels BMX will present an open house for all ages from noon to 5 p.m. May 17 at the Steel Wheels BMX Track at Imagination Glen Park, 2275 McCool Road. The open house will serve as a fundraising event for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America. Events throughout the day will include raffles, clinics, practice sessions, bike maintenance clinics, free bike repairs, face painting and Noah’s Ark Stuffed Animal Wagon. The open house will be followed by the annual Race for Life at 5:30 p.m. Anyone can compete in the Race for Life. All race fees collected go toward the Race for Life donation fund.

PARISH DANCE | Munster
Our Lady of Grace Parish of Highland honors its parishioners and alumni with a Mass and dinner dance May 24. Mass is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner and dancing will be at 6 p.m. at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. Tickets cost $40 per person and may be bought at the school office. Our Lady of Grace is especially honoring the class of 1958 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of graduation from school. In addition, the classes of 1968, 1978, 1988, and 1998 will be celebrated.
