They're keeping us real busy. We were up at 7 (Tuesday), 6 our time, 6:45 (Wednesday) morning. We had one practice (Tuesday) and two every other day. We even practice on game day, so we're going pretty hard.
There isn't much free time. We go out to eat and we're driving pretty far, so when we get back we pretty much just sit around and relax, and watch the NBA finals. There are a couple die-hard Lakers fans, Walter (Offutt) and Julius (Mays). Everybody else, they really don't care. We went to Carmel for dinner (Tuesday) at the Bridgewater Club.
I'm on the bus with coach (John) Boyd (from West Side). He's pretty fun. We've had some pretty good conversations. We drove for an hour, and he talked the whole time. He's got some interesting opinions on everything. He's an aggressive driver, you could say.
I think I knew every one of the guys already and a lot of the girls, too. It's more of a chance to see people I haven't seen in a while, see how their season went, what they're doing for college.
We were pleased we came back to win the game (Sunday), but we weren't really pleased with how we played. We'll play better.
-- As told to Times sports writer Jim Peters
The Times will be taking diary entries this week from the Region's Indiana All-Stars, Zack Novak of Chesterton and Lisa Samplawski of Portage. Today, Novak talks about the hectic schedule, resulting from the series being consolidated into one week.
