HIGHLAND
Fall registration starts this week for students
Returning and new students can register today.
Middle school students can register from noon to 6 p.m. today. Elementary students register from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday. High school students whose last names begin with letters A through L can register from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19. Registration times are 2 to 4 p.m. for students with last names beginning with the letters M through Z.
For new students, parents or guardians must be a resident of Highland. In joint custody cases, the registering parent must show court documentation of legal custody.
For proof of residency, parents or guardians can show two items from utility bills/receipts; driver's license/ vehicle registration; U.S. passport; military photo; pay stubs or unemployment check receipt.
A copy of the student's birth certificate, Social Security number and health records, previous school record or withdrawal grades and the most recent report card are required.

PORTAGE
Little Cal River basin agency meets today
The Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission will meet at 6 p.m. today at the commission office, 6100 Southport Road, Portage.
The commission oversees the federal levee project now active in Munster and Hammond.
HAMMOND
Cal College enrollment day slated for Thursday
Calumet College of St. Joseph will host new student enrollment from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
The day is designed for prospective students to go through the admissions process and have a decision made that same day. A completed admissions application, as well as transcripts, will be required.

EAST CHICAGO
Hungarian picnic slated to start at noon Saturday
Holy Trinity Hungarian Church offers an indoor picnic from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at East Chicago Knights of Columbus Hall, located at Indianapolis Boulevard and Knights of Columbus Drive.
A silent auction and cash raffle will be available. Drawings will take place after the picnic and winners will be notified. Food will be sold including Hungarian stuffed cabbage dinners, pork stew and dumplings dinner and sausage sandwiches, as well as hot dogs, elephant ears, beer, wine, pop, coffee, water, noodles and homemade baked goods.

HAMMOND
Port Authority to meet Tuesday at the marina
The Hammond Port Authority will meet Tuesday at the Hammond Marina, 701 Casino Center.
The regular meeting, scheduled for 5:30 p.m., will be preceded by a meeting of the Construction Committee at 4 p.m. and a closed meeting of the board at 5 p.m.
