Insurance experts to assist region storm victims

State insurance experts will be in Griffith next week to help homeowners sort through claims and complaints about coverage.

Some residents hit by the recent tornado and severe storms are complaining that their insurance companies haven't sent adjusters or aren't covering all of their claims, Griffith Town Council President Rick Ryfa said.

At the direction of Gov. Mitch Daniels, members of the Indiana Department of Insurance will assist the homeowners.

They'll look over the policies and make sure the companies are covering what they're supposed to, Ryfa said.

The service is free.

Residents can meet with insurance experts from noon to 7 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Griffith Town Hall, 111 N. Broad Street.

" Wow when I had 5 feet of water in my basement in Sept 2006 they didnt send any experts to make sure insurance companies were covering what they were suppose to. I didnt receive any where near what I was suppose to get. In fact Griffith didnt do anything for the town period. I am so HAPPY that Ryfa is Town President. It is amazing the changes one person can make when they are looking out for the town and not themselves as the past Town Board President Doboz!!!! "

" Is this for Griffith residents only? I do not live in Griffith but have damages that the insurance company is telling me they are not responsible for. I understand that Griffith was hit the hardest the north side of ridge through Munster was also hit pretty bad. "
