ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- After two days of silence, Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin steps to center stage at the Republican National Convention tonight to prove to delegates that she can help John McCain win the White House despite distracting questions about her family life and qualifications.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, once McCain's rival for the GOP presidential nomination, is scheduled to deliver the convention's keynote address Wednesday. Both Palin, 44, and McCain, 72, also are to be officially voted onto the GOP presidential ticket by convention delegates.
Republicans hope Palin's speech -- to be delivered before a nationwide television audience Wednesday night -- would sell voters on her candidacy despite questions about her qualifications and the thoroughness of McCain's selection process, to say nothing of the continuing distractions involving her family and her brief tenure as governor.
The addition of Palin to the ticket has excited Republicans here and across the country. But the stunning disclosure Monday that Palin's unmarried 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant -- and a continuing drip of potentially embarrassing details -- had knocked the convention off message before a rousing program Tuesday night.

Obamas interesting lack of experience wrote on Sep 11, 2008 1:29 PM:
On the other hand, McCain is head and shoulders above Obama in experience. No one argues with that, not even the far left Democrats. McCain is ready to lead, ready to assume the Presidency on day one.
And Sarah Palin is not far behind McCain, and also head and shoulders above Obama. Sarah Palin was a MAYOR of a town, where she had executive experience and responsibility, and made many hard decisions. Then, 2 years ago, she fought corrupt Republicans and beat a sitting Democrat to take over as Governor of the large state, Alaska.
At that point she again took on an executive role, made many good decisions and gained experience.
McCain/Palin have much more experience than Obama, together or apart. "

Regardless of how many it is, it is an important safeguard to have in place. No woman should have to carry a fetus from a rapist. Or her father. Or when it infringes on her health.
Abortions should be safe, legal and rare. I think we could agree that birth control helps prevent abortion. Unfortunately, Sarah Palin and many of the right-wing are opposed to that as well.
So in essence, the right-wing doesn't want woman to use birth control. Give them no choice in carrying a fetus to term. And once a child is born wants to cut all government funding to help low-income children and families. And cut funding for early childhood education. And work to block universal health care for children.
Wow, they seem to love that fetus but really dislike the children. "

Bush tax cut has enabled a growing economy wrote on Sep 10, 2008 8:24 AM:
Commerce's Bureau of Economic Analysis revealed a contraction in gross domestic product, or GDP, in the July-to-September quarter of 2000: GDP shrank 0.5 percent, which started the Clinton recession, the Commerce Department said. President Bush took office in late January, 2001, and inherited the Clinton recession.
Bush inherited the recession that started during the last year of the Clinton administration, then several factors beyond Bush’s control hurt the economy. First, of course, were the attacks of 9-11-01 that severely impacted economic activity. Then, the Bush team uncovered and prosecuted the corporate malfeasance that was occurring during the Clinton years. Even with all those negative factors, the Bush tax relief made the Clinton recession shorter and shallower than it might have been, and resulted in many years in a row of the best economic growth in 20 years.
Lately, bad liberal policies on energy have hurt America. "

Bill Clinton's middle class tax cut did not become a retroactive tax increase that is just a flat out lie.
Anyone who is living cannot possibly think that the economy is better today for middle-class Americans than it was under Bill Clinton. That is just laughable and takes away any strength in your argument.
So if you are happy with our economy and where our country is headed over the past 8 years than you should certainly vote for John McCain. No question.
However, if you liked the economy under Bill Clinton and think the last 8 years have not moved us forward than clearly your choice is Obama/Biden.
Very simple. "
OBAMA Middle Class Tax CUT wrote on Sep 10, 2008 7:43 AM:
Back to reality. Even McCain's own chief economic adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, has said it is inaccurate to say that "Barack Obama raises taxes.
In its analysis of Obama's and Sen. John McCain's tax proposals, the Tax Policy Center concluded that "Obama would give larger tax cuts to low- and moderate-income households and pay some of the cost by raising taxes on high-income taxpayers. In contrast, McCain would cut taxes across the board and give the biggest cuts to the highest-income households.
For example, if you make between 37K and 66K per year. Obama will cut your taxes by 2.4%. McCain will cut your taxes by 0.7%.
Please do your own research (any search engine will do. Just type in Obama tax plan or Obama tax cut) and stop LYING. Let people at least know the truth so they can make a fair decision.
Really the republican talking points are getting to be even more laughable than usual :-) "

The top 1% of wage earners (those earning over $313,469 a year) pay 37.42% of the taxes! The top 10%(those earning over $92,144 a year) pay 67.33% of the taxes! And McCain/Palin will enable even more success in America by rooting out corruption and wasteful spending where ever they find it, in either party.
Contrast that with the far left liberal Obama who has never gone against his own party, and will simply try to increase taxes on working Americans, and show weakness and appeasement to our enemies.
Obama has never taken on his own party, the Democrats, on any major issue. "

If you make between 250K and 600K you will get a minimal tax CUT or stay exactly where you are at right now.
If you make over $650,000 per year you will see your tax rate returned to the levels that they were at during the Clinton presidency. Remember the economic prosperity of that time period? Contrast that with today.
If you want more of the same than McCain is your candidate. He is offering no hope of change. None. Show me any difference between Bush and McCain on the economy, health care, education, etc, etc. There is no difference. "

About 38% of U.S. households pay no income tax today. Under a President Obama (whose policies would shave 15.3 million households off the tax rolls) that share would grow to nearly half of all American households
We have been repeatedly told that everyone should pay their fair share. So this sounds grossly unfair and like a return of tax-and-spend liberal economics.
Mr. Obama's instincts on health care are always to move more people onto rolls of government-paid and government-mandated insurance, while depriving the marketplace the oxygen it needs for greater innovation, life-saving cures, and efficiency.
