Habitat ReStore sells home goods, furniture
Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs has opened a ReStore at 180 W. Joe Orr Road.
It's open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The store sells new, gently used and salvaged merchandise such as furniture, appliances, kitchen and bath countertops, light fixtures and other items.
The store needs volunteers, customers and donations of merchandise or cash.

Village invites seniors to monthly breakfasts
Village Trustee Arthur Bennett, also chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee, announced the village has started hosting a monthly senior breakfast club.
The buffet-style breakfast will cost $4 per person for those age 55 and older.

Florian Fest has ethnic foods, games, contests
Florian Fest will take place from noon to 9 p.m. Oct. 5 in the St. Florian gymnasium at 131st and Houston Avenue in Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood.
There will be music by A Touch of Class and a DJ, along with ethnic foods, $5,000 raffle, kids games, bean bag tourney, Guitar Hero contest, Power Shower, Zingo and more. Parking is free.

HOMEWOOD
Choir, band, orchestra perform Thursday night
Music will be showcased at 7 p.m. Thursday at James Hart School in the James Hart/Millennium Gymnasium, 18211 Aberdeen.
All three performance organizations at the school - the Panther Choir, the symphonic band and the symphonic orchestra - make their debut. All three groups are made up of students in seventh and eighth grade who successfully passed the audition process last spring.

Senior center operates food bank Tuesdays
Respond Now is a food bank in the Sauk Village Senior Center at 21701 Torrence Ave.
The food bank is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays.

SOUTH HOLLAND
SSC seeks public input for evaluation by panel
South Suburban College is preparing for a comprehensive site evaluation visit in February by the Higher Learning Commission.
The college is accredited by the HLC of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
South Suburban College is engaging in a process of self-study and evaluation to renew the 10-year accreditation that was granted after the learning commission's last visit. As part of the process, officials are seeking input from the public regarding the quality of the institution, and its services and academic programs.
College officials encourage residents of College District 510 to submit their comments in writing by Jan. 2. Comments are not confidential and must include the name, address and telephone number of the person providing them.
