Section of County Line Road closed until Friday
The Porter County Highway Department and Norfolk & Southern Railroad will close the Porter-LaPorte County Line Road today through Friday from County Road 900 North to County Road 1100 North for crossing repairs.

Bionics expert to speak about new technology
Michael Chorost, an authority in the field of bionics and medical technology, will present the talk "Rebuilt: How Becoming Part Computer Made Me More Human" as part of the Sinai Forum presented by Purdue University North Central.
Chorost was born with severe hearing loss in both ears due to rubella. He received hearing aids and learned to talk at age 3. In 2001, he lost his remaining hearing and later received a cochlear implant.
He will speak about advances in bionic technology at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Elston Middle School, 317 Detroit St.

VALPARAISO
Author to be featured during VU inauguration
An author and scholar of world Christianity will take part in an Oct. 15 academic symposium celebrating the inauguration of Valparaiso University's 18th president, Mark Heckler.
The symposium will feature Lamin Sanneh, a professor of world Christianity and history at Yale University and the author of several books on religion and history. Sanneh was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to the Pontifical Commission on Religious Relations with Muslims.
A panel will respond to Sanneh's speech, and audience members may pose questions.
The event is set for 3:30 p.m. in the Christopher library and is free to the public.
Heckler's inauguration will be at 2:15 p.m. Oct. 17 in VU's Chapel of the Resurrection.
BEVERLY SHORES
World's Fair homes on display at Indiana Dunes
The annual architectural tours at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore featuring homes from the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, A Century of Progress, will be held Oct. 11 and 12.
The guided tours are limited in size and are by reservation only. Reservations are being accepted now at www.historiclandmarks.org. Tickets are $10 per person. Tour times will be assigned when making reservations. Parking information and tickets will be mailed later.
The Chicago World’s Fair, A Century of Progress, was organized around the theme of science and its role in industrial development. The fair’s model homes featured revolutionary materials, innovative building methods, modern home appliances, and new construction techniques.

High school expands hours for its field house
Portage High School has announced fall field house hours. It has expanded fall hours for public use of the field house and fitness room. Hours are 5:30 to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
