Ever seen "Casper?" You can starting at dusk tonight at Willard Wood Park Center, 515 First St. in Crete. After trick-or-treating bring your lawn chairs or a blanket and enjoy this fun Halloween classic movie shown on the big screen in Crete Park. Your family will love this night out. Even if you've seen the movie before, you've never seen it like this. Dress for the weather.
Dress up
Join me from noon to 4 p.m. today at Strikers Bowling Alley, 643 Dixie Highway in Beecher, for a Halloween party. If you come in costume, you will receive a raffle ticket and be entered into a drawing to win a gift card for Strikers or Buddys Drive In. There will also be plenty of tricks, treats, games and prizes for everyone.
Local band
The Dead Remnants will perform one show only starting at 9:30 tonight at the Halloween costume party at Chuck's Place, 1358 Main St. in Crete. They will be happy to sign autographs, especially Kevin. The guys in the band include my friend Lou Gasparetti, playing guitar, Dan Bright playing base, Kevin Brill on lead vocals and Eric Kuiper flying all the way from Texas just to play the drums for this special event. All of the members should be in costume.
Quite a treat
Trick-or-treating in Steger is from 3 to 6 p.m. tonight. It will be followed until 8 p.m. with a bonfire at Veterans Park on Hopkins Avenue in Steger. Free hot dogs and pop for the kids.
Eye catchers
Join me and some other backyard astronomers from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 5 at Plum Creek Nature Center to find out what's visible in the evening sky for the month. Weather permitting, part of each program will include a telescope viewing. This program will take place inside the nature center. If telescope viewing is possible it may require a walk down paved paths and over grass or asphalt surfaces to the viewing area. Dress appropriately. Registration is required. Call (708) 946-2216.

Steger American Legion Post 521, 34 W. 34th St., hosts a fish fry from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 14. This is their winter fundraiser so stop by for some great fish. For a mere $7 you get a three-piece meal or $6 for a two-piece meal. Call (708) 754-9056.
