STUDENT HORSE SHOW | Hobart

Exceptional Equestrians Unlimited will host a Student Horse Show at 10 a.m. Nov. 1 at the EEU Stable, 5307 E. 61st Ave. Early classes will perform at 10, followed by Sonny's Semi-Retirement event at 11:30 and performances by the late classes at noon. A Volunteer Appreciation Celebration will conclude the festivities at 1:30 p.m.

COAT DRIVE | Lowell

A coat drive is being sponsored through the end of the year at Tri-Creek Lumber and Hardware, 1895 E. Commercial Ave. Drop off new or gently used and clean coats of any size for men, women or children from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and they will be distributed to local churches and St. Jude House in Crown Point. During the first coat drive last year, more than 400 winter coats were donated, and charitable organizations anticipate a greater need this year.

PIZZA FOR A PINT | Hobart

Uno’s Chicago Grill, 2385 Southlake Mall Road, is partnering with Indiana Blood Center to encourage local blood donations. Anyone who presents to donate from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 1 will receive a coupon for a free individual pizza. In order to donate blood, donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. Bring a photo ID. An individual can donate blood every 56 days. Indiana Blood Center is a nonprofit community service organization serving more than 60 Indiana hospitals with lifesaving blood and blood products.

FLOOD RELIEF DRIVE | Crown Point

Source One Real Estate and Crown Point Cares are holding a flood victim relief drive for September flood victims of Northwest Indiana from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2 at the North Street Business Center, 133 N. Indiana Avenue (the SW corner of North St. and Indiana Ave. Donations of nonperishable food, clothing, house wares, furniture, etc. will be accepted. Crown Point Cares is a committee of local residents/volunteers created to help assist the flood victims by channeling food, clothes, house wares and furniture to those in need through charitable organizations and does not accept money. Monetary donations can be mailed or dropped off and made to Northwest Indiana Flood Relief c/o Peoples Bank, 850 Stillwater Parkway, Crown Point, IN 46307.

ANGEL HONORED | Indianapolis

Cedar Lake resident Robert J. Miller, a firefighter with the Cedar Lake Fire Department for six years and EMT with Superior Medical Service for four years, will be recognized by the Indianapolis Colts and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield as an Anthem Angel on Nov. 2 at the Indianapolis Colts NFL football game at Lucas Oil Stadium. In 2005, Miller spent several weeks in Louisiana assisting Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims, and recently he traveled to Galveston, Texas, to help with evacuations before Hurricane Ike struck, staying for two weeks after the storm to provide medical services to the injured. Most recently, he delivered a baby whose mother was in labor at a local jail and did not tell anyone she was in labor for several hours. Miller will be honored with four VIP Club Seat tickets to the colts game, a feature story in the gameday magazine, "The Scout," and recognition on the scoreboard screen during the game. Nominations are being accepted for Anthem Angels to be honored

during upcoming home games.

VETS EAT FREE | Crown Point

Fred Schmidt American Legion Post 20, Auxiliary Unit 20 and the Sons of the Legion will serve the monthly breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at the post home, 1401 N. Main St. In honor of Veterans' Day, all veterans eat free this month. All-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, juice, coffee and milk cost $6 for adults and $3 for children 6 to 12. Younger children eat free. This month, hats, gloves and socks are being collected at the door for local flood victims and the homeless.

SAVE A LIFE | Crown Point

Heartland Blood Centers will hold a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. today in Suite D at Marian Education Center on the St. Anthony campus, 1201 S. Main St. Share the gift of life and receive a free water bottle cooler. Call to schedule an appointment. A photo ID is required.

CASH FOR CANDY | Merrillville

Michael H. Min, DDS will sponsor a Halloween Candy Buy-Back Program this holiday. Children up to 14 can bring their unwanted Halloween candy from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 5 to the office at 1410 E. 85th Ave. and receive $1 a pound. The candy, along with toothbrushes, will be sent to U.S. military troops serving overseas via the Indiana Air National Guard's 122nd Fighter Wing - Blacksnakes.

BENEFIT FOR A DAD | Lynwood

Dave Hoyt is a husband, a dad of a 7-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. He Is only 38 years old. He was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, Stage 3. To help defray high medical costs not covered by insurance, a benefit will be held from 4 to 11 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Dolton/Lynwood Elks, 3325 Glenwood Dyer Road. A mostaccioli dinner donated by DalSanto's will be served from 4 to 8 p.m., a silent auction and a raffle will be held. Donation is $15 per person at the door. Monetary donations may be made directly to: Dave Hoyt Benefit Fund, Fifth Third Bank. All other donations may be sent to: Dave Hoyt Benefit Fund, 9270 Olcott Ave., St. John. Pick up service is available for donated silent auction items.

GIVE BLOOD | Lake County

American Red Cross blood drives will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Children's Wing at Bethel Church, 101201 Broadway, Crown Point; from 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 4 in Classrooms 16 and 18 at Lincoln Community Center, 2450 Lincoln St., Highland; and from 1 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Fellowship Hall at St. Matthias Church, 101 Burrell Drive, Crown Point. VEHICLE INSPECTIONS | Hobart

To mark Car Care Awareness Month, the Car Care Council is sponsoring a free Vehicle Safety & Maintenance Inspection Day beginning at 9 a.m. Nov. 1 at Borowski Auto Services, Ind. 51/130 and Cleveland Road, one mile south of Ridge Road. Inspections will include belts, hoses, air filters, tire pressure and fluid check. Free hot dogs, pop and candy for children and a gift for the first 40 customers. Nonperishable food items will be accepted for the Hobart Food Pantry.
