PET CLINIC | Lake County
National Animal Welfare Society Clinic is offering low-cost pet services to Northwest Indiana residents on Nov. 18. A cat spay is $47 and a neuter is $42. A dog spay is $77 and a neuter is $72. The clinic requires current proof of rabies vaccination. If animal is not current, the clinic offers the vaccine for $15. Space is limited and exact location will be given with a confirmed appointment.

ANGEL TREE | Cedar Lake
The Angel Tree will soon be up in the lobby of MacArthur Elementary School, 12900 Fairbanks St. The school has a list of more than 50 local families to help this season. Contact Teresa Hasty at the school by Nov. 14 to indicate an interest in helping this year. Wrapped gifts should be placed in a large gift bag, one per child, with the tag attached to the handle, and brought to the school by Dec. 10. Monetary gifts will be used to help families through the NIPSCO Gift of Energy program.

MEDICARE HELP | Crown Point
Northwest Indiana Community Action is holding a checkup/signup event to assist seniors with Medicare Part D annual open enrollment from 10:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 17 at NWICA Area One offices, 5240 Fountain Drive (off U.S. 30, south of Pine Island, east of Burr Street). Part D open enrollment is from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31. Present Part D participants, individuals enrolled in other medicine programs, as well as those who have no medicine coverage are encouraged to get this program checkup. Given that programs change from year to year, they can have qualified Medicare and state health insurance assistants do an on-site personal evaluation. If someone chooses to change, they can complete the process at this event. They may also need to apply for extra help to pay the premiums. Reservations are required and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Susan Skinner, RN, will be the speaker at the Lupus Foundation of America’s Valparaiso support group meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Education & Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. Skinner will be discussing guided imagery. The Valparaiso support group meets on the third Tuesday of each month. All LFA support group meetings are free of charge and open to the public.
