VALPARAISO | A $450,000 home will be raffled next year to benefit Bishop Noll Institute and Northwest Indiana Habitat for Humanity.
The two groups have partnered for House Raffle 2009, with the support of First Midwest and Centier Banks.
Lisa Woodruff, director of development for Bishop Noll, a Hammond Catholic high school, made the announcement Monday afternoon on site at 2857 Bonita Drive.
Woodruff got the idea about the house raffle from Frank Szczepanski, a Bishop Noll alum and owner of TSC Ventures, LLC.
"Frank called me and gave me the idea about the raffle," Woodruff said. "And we wanted to add a partner to reach constituents and Habitat for Humanity seemed the perfect fit."
Szczepanski served on Bishop Noll's board four years ago and wanted to improve the quality of computers at the school.
"I felt this house raffle would give us enough money to do this and improve technologies," Szczepanski said. "This will also help Habitat build more houses."
Tim Fletcher, a Habitat board member, said members were very excited to be part of the effort.
"This raffle will be able to help with Habitat's missions," Fletcher said.
The 3,400-square-foot house is a technologically advanced home, said Tom Krueger, president of K2 Construction, the company that built the home.
"The house can be monitored while people are on vacation, and there are cameras set up to view the home from a computer while at work," Krueger said.
The house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms along with a kitchen and an 800-square-foot recreation room downstairs.
The raffle will be held April 24 and tickets are $150 each. Only 5,000 tickets will be printed.
"Even though these are tough economic times, we feel this is a great opportunity for people and it will help us make money," Woodruff said. "We hope to raise $300,000 and we will be sharing the profits with Habit (for Humanity)."
Woodruff hopes this raffle is a success and hopes to do it again next year.
People can purchase tickets at First Midwest Banks in Lake County, Centier Banks in Porter County, or by calling (219) 932-9058. Or send check and entry form to Bishop Noll Institute, Win a House NWI, P.O. Box 643, Hammond, IN 46325.
