The Museum of Science and Industry opened its doors in 1933 and is the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere. It is home to more than 35,000 artifacts and nearly 14 acres of hands-on exhibits designed to spark scientific inquiry and creativity. Public programming includes daily live science experiences, facilitated exhibits, special access tours, science theater shows, lectures, live videoconferences and special overnight events.
Major permanent exhibits include: U-505 Submarine, YOU! The Experience, Science Storms, the Coal Mine, the Baby Chick Hatchery, The Great Train Story, ToyMaker 3000, Genetics: Decoding Life, Earth Revealed, Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle, the Pioneer Zephyr, Farm Tech and Take Flight.
"Our latest temporary exhibit, MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition, makes its world premiere at MSI. It will have you hanging from ledges, driving blindfolded, pulling tablecloths off of fully set tables and doing everything else you've always wished you could do-but knew you shouldn't. And like the often explosive fun of the MythBusters series, it will all be in the name of science," says David R. Mosena, president and CEO.
