Birthday parties at Deep River Waterpark made a splash with voters who selected it as the No. 1 place to host a children's birthday party.
General manager Chris Landgrave said it's a popular party site because it's fun and easy.
"We take care of things they'd have to do at home. You don't have to bake cupcakes or clean up. It makes a lot more sense," he said.
The park, hailed as the largest waterpark in the Chicagoland area, also provides the entertainment. With many types of attractions ranging from flowing rivers to plunging slides, the park is suitable for many age groups. Birthday party packages include admission, a reserved party table to keep all day, a lunch and coupons for ice cream treats. Upgrades are available. The park's mascot, Paddles the Otter, also makes an appearance, and the birthday child receives special prizes and surprises.
"I don't think a day goes by with a birthday," Landgrave said.
