Lucrezia, with locations in Chesterton and Crown Point, has set the bar high for Italian food in the region. They offer a healthy selections of specials each day that are centered on the chef’s ingredients and expertise and they are always exceptional. Nada Karas, owner along with her husband Michael, says that they purvey local suppliers for their ingredients and they have a menu, along with an ample offering of specials every day. “We prepare our dishes from as much fresh local produce as possible. Chef Alfredo makes his dishes from whatever is in season and we’ve developed relationships with our local farmers. Our menu has been the same core menu for almost 15 years with some tweaks. We change things up with the season, and we offer many specials. There aren’t one or two specials—there are many to choose from. Also, service is critical to any restaurant. Even if the food is exceptional, if the service is bad, you won’t come back, so we really focus on our service and our employees have longevity with us. Chef Alfredo has been the chef in Chesterton since day one, and Chef Patrick in Crown Point has been with us for eight years.”

Michael Karas says, “We’re an independently owned restaurant. There is no corporate headquarters where things are prepared and shipped out in bulk. Things are truly made from scratch, from fresh ingredients. We don’t have a deep fryer or microwave. It’s cooked to order using olive oil and garlic. Our food is very consistent, so no matter who cooks the chicken vesuvio, it will taste the same.”
