Blue Top Drive-In

8801 Indianapolis Blvd

Highland, Ind.

Blue Top Drive-In is a throw back to the days when eating under a restaurant canopy from the comfort of a vehicle was a popular family activity. Although times have changed and drive-thru restaurants have become more popular, Blue Top owner Kent Johnsen says loyal customers and special items on the menu have helped keep the drive-in alive.

"We specialize in hamburgers, and we have our homemade root beer I make in my kitchen," said Johnsen, who operates the drive-in with his mother, Wendy. "One other cute thing we do is if a customer brings in their dog, the dog gets a free hot dog."

Customers can choose to have a tray put on the window of their vehicle as part of the drive-in experience, or can take advantage of picnic tables or indoor seating.
