Crown Point

Crown Point is a city that is situated around the old Lake County Court House. This “Grand Old Lady” is the center of the city and the square is both an historic downtown as well as a thriving commercial center. Crown Point’s downtown offers a wealth of restaurants, specialized gift shops, and services that can be found nowhere else. There are also a number of historical buildings near the court house, including the Allman Block Building built in 1891, the Masonic Temple built in 1919, the People's Bank building built in 1910, and Cheshire Hall built in 1873, to name a few. Many of these structures house businesses today, adding to the character of Crown Point’s charming downtown.

Mayor David Uran says it is this downtown that brings visitors from far and wide. “Being voted the best downtown for the past five years in a row starts with our beautiful court house. This attracts people to see and enjoy its long history. The city complements that resource with year-round family-oriented festivals and parades. Our ‘Shop Local’ campaign has helped maintain and provide new energy to our merchants who provide a unique shopping experience. I truly believe ‘Building a Stronger Community from Within’ supports our progress.
