Tech Credit Union
Originally chartered in 1936 to serve Gary Works, Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation (later known as U.S. Steel Gary Works) employees and their immediate families, Tech Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution.
The Tech Federal Credit Union converted from a federal to a state-chartered credit union in 1997, as a state charter presented more growth opportunities, and the name subsequently became Tech Credit Union (Tech CU). Another conversion occurred in 2002, when Tech CU began operation under a community charter, serving those who live or work in Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Jasper and Newton counties in Indiana, as well as in Will and Grundy counties in Illinois and the Greater Calumet City, Illinois, area.
In 2016, Tech CU celebrated 80 years of providing financial services to its membership and the communities they serve. Tech CU president and CEO Michael Hussey says this has been accomplished by providing members with the deposit and loan services they need, as well as the conveniences of electronic and mobile account access. Tech CU also offers a variety of commercial loans and first mortgages to its membership and area residents. “We have always viewed providing these services as a privilege and recognize the responsibility to provide them with reliability, fair pricing and utmost courtesy,” says Hussey. “We are exceptionally thankful to those who voted us Best Credit Union.”
