Well, I haven’t been in this space lately...sorry. Though there may be some that are appreciative of that fact.

Some things around town.

Congrats to Eddie Jevyak. He was named the third winner of the Sr. Alban Community Service Award given by the Calumet City Lions Club.

I first knew Eddie as the manager for the TF North football teams of the mid ‘80s which featured future Big Ten and NFL quarterback Mike Tonczak.

From first I knew Eddie, he was beset by physical issues that made ambulating a more difficult chore than for most of us. But that never stopped Eddie from being an active member of our community. His volunteer work, especially with the Calumet Memorial Park District, is legendary.

Hooray for Eddie and hooray for the Calumet City Lions for honoring folks who give to their community.

Speaking of volunteers, Clarence Zick died recently, just two weeks after his wife Cindy. Both were in their 90s. And both were key volunteers in Victor Care and Calumet City Resources, organizations which have been helping those in need in Calumet City since the 1970s.

For Clarence, community service was probably inherited from his father who was mayor of Calumet City in the 1930s.

Recent appointments by the mayor has put the Board of Trustees of the Calumet City Library back to its optimal number of nine.

Welcome to new members Mary Cox, Algie Crivens, Dwanna Harris, Ruben Rodriguez, and Mary Beth Swibes.

We also got good news at the Library recently in the form of stock bequeathed by the late Susan Pajak and a $1000 donation form Bob’s Discount Furniture the newest store in Calumet City. A nice way to say hello.

Some big summer events are coming up.

St. Andrew Parish is having its annual festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 25th and 26th on the parish grounds 768 Lincoln Ave. in Cal City. Great food, live Polka band and camaraderie will be in ample supply.

Call the parish for details (708 862 4165).

Memorial Park will be having its Freedom’s Eve events on...coincidently...July 3rd. All kinds of events, music, food and the best fireworks show around.

All at TF North athletic fields.

Call the Park for details (708 868 2530 ext. 121).

Thanks for reading.
