BLOG: Green Door Books to host zine night

Green Door Books in Hobart.

The zine scene in Northwest Indiana has been enjoying a stapled, ink-smudged Renaissance of late, and people can check out the latest creations of local zinesters at January Zine Night at Green Door Books in downtown Hobart on Friday night.

In addition to paperbacks, the used bookstore at 220 Main St. carries zines — underground self-published magazines that often feature poetry, comics, rants, art and autobiographic writings.

At a special event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Green Door Books will release an array of new editions of local zines, including Mythos, Appendix Z, Ampurrsand, GloomWorld's Headaches and Heartbreaks, St. Cruciferous, BearHead's Middle of Nowhere and Sacred Space.

Artists Nick Gloom, Briana Olivares, Bridget Dedelow and "many more" will be on hand to chat with readers or sign copies.

Green Door Books also will offer new national zines on subjects like history, humor, DIY and vegan cooking.

The event is free and open to the public.
