GARY | The RailCats conclude their 11-game marathon with a series finale against Winnipeg.

The 'Cats are 9-1 so far in the stretch, improving the team from third in the division to second, from four games behind Wichita to 2 1/2.

The defending American Association Champion Winnipeg Goldeyes are third in the North and split a double-header Saturday against the RailCats. Justin Garcia, today's starter, is among the best on the staff, with a 4-1 record and 3.18 ERA.

Billy Spottiswood, the RailCats starter, is making his second start with the team.

Hammond High grad Mike Coles opens with a single. Amos Ramon is walked on a 3-2 pitch to put two on. A double to the right-center wall by Josh Mazzola scores Coles and Ramon. Single by Casey Haerther moves Mazzola to third. Fehlandt Lentini grounds to short where Haerther is taken out at second, Mazzola scores and Lentini reaches first out-legging the throw. Luis Alen hits a single just inside the foul line in left field, Lentini is out at home on the throw. Nick Liles singles to score Alen. Ryan Scoma flies out to left. The Goldeyes have five hits and a walk in the inning. Mid 1st inning: Goldeyes 4, RailCats 0

Adam Klein is walked to open the RailCats' offensive game. Mike Massaro grounds into a double play. Cristian Guerrero strikes out looking. End 1st inning: Goldeyes 4, RailCats 0

Second inning

Adam Klein came out of mid-left field to make a catch in just left of shallow center field, calling off two other fielders for the out on Nate Samson's ball. Mike Coles grounds out to third base. Amos Ramon singles into left field. Josh Mazzola flies out to center field. Mid 2nd inning: Goldeyes 4, RailCats 0

Craig Maddox flies out to right field on a 1-2 pitch. Danny Pulfer flies out to left-center, a catch made on the run by Mike Coles. Brian Kolb singles down the left-field line. Drew Martinez hits a bloop single that scores Kolb from first base. Martinez steals second. Zac Mitchell hits his first career homer to score himself and Martinez. Chase Tucker is out when Nick Liles jumps to catch a line drive at second base. End 2nd inning: Goldeyes 4, RailCats 3

Third inning

Casey Haerther singles between third and short. Felhlant Lentini grounds out to short, Lentini is on first on the fielder's choice. Luis Alen grounds into a double play. Mid 3rd inning: Goldeyes 4, RailCats 3

Adam Klein doubles into very shallow left field, sliding under the throw. Mike Massaro flies out to center. Cristian Guerrero grounds back to the mound, Adam Klein is out on a rundown and Guerrero is on first on the fielder's choice. Craig Maddox strikes out swinging. End 3rd inning: Goldeyes 4, RailCats 3

Fourth inning

Nick Liles walks and Ryan Scoma strikes out swinging. Nate Samson singles and moves Liles to third. Mike Coles grounds to the mound, Samson is out at second, the double play takes Danny Pulfer off of first base and Nick Liles scores on the fielder's choice. Amos Ramon flies out to right field. Mid 4th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Danny Pulfer grounds out to short. Brian Kolb doubles into right field. Drew Martinez pops out to third base. Zac Mitchell grounds to first. End 4th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Fifth inning

Josh Mazzola pops out foul to first base. Casey Haerther grounds out to short, the throw to first is high, but Danny Pulfer saves the toss and scrambles to the bag for the out. Fehlandt Lentini flies out to right field. Mid 5th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Chase Tucker strikes out swinging. Adam Klein singles, he's reached in every plate appearance today. Klein reaches second on a missed pick-off as the ball goes over the head of first baseman Casey Haerther for an E1. Mike Massaro hits a slow grounder to second, he thinks he beat the throw (which was really an underhand toss), but the umpire disagrees. Klein is on third. Cristian Guerereo flies out to right. End 5th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Sixth inning

Luis Alen pops out to first base. Nick Liles makes his first at-bat out of the series, after going 7-for-7, he flies out to center field. Ryan Scoma singles up the middle. Nate Samson is walked to put two on. That'll bring a meeting on the mound with Spottiswood. Mike Coles grounds to second where Nate Samson is out. Mid 6th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Craig Maddox flies out to center field. Danny Pulfer flies out to right-center field. Brian Kolb also flies out to right field. End 6th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Seventh inning

Kyle Lindquist enters for Billy Spottiswood, who allowed five runs in six innings. Amos Ramon singles up the middle. Ramon is caught off first before a pitch is even thrown to Mazzola. Josh Mazzola grounds out to third base. Casey Haerther grounds out to first base. Mid 7th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Brendan Lafferty, a lefty, is the new pitcher for the Goldeyes, relieving Justin Garcia, who allowed three runs in six innings. Drew Martinez pops out to third base. Zac Mitchell strikes out swinging. Chase Tucker flies out to left field. End 7th inning: Goldeyes 5, RailCats 3

Eighth inning
