GARY | We'll start with an FYI that the game will begin later because of the dwarf wrestling event preceding the game.

Game time is estimated around 7:35 to 7:40, in case you're planning your evening.

Also, the tarp is on the field to start batting practice thanks to a rain that rolled in around 3:55 p.m. That has mostly washed out all of batting practice.

The RailCats are a month away from the end of the season and cling to a 2 1/2 game lead on the wildcard slot in front of Laredo.

6:45 p.m.: Here's the deal with the late start -- the wrestling pit is set up for the dwarf wrestling, but the wrestlers haven't begun. A heavy rain drenched the covers on the wrestling mat, and the game won't start until the wrestlers have wrestled. The tarp is still on the field as the rain comes lightly.

Tonight's lineup:

Saints (36-33)

SS Adam Frost

3B Joey Becker

2B Brad Boyer

LF Willie Cabrera

RF Brandon Tripp

DH Ole Sheldon

CFR Jose Hernandez

C Dwight Childs

1B Dan Kaczrowski

RHP Anthony Claggett (7-3, 3.88 ERA)

RailCats (41-30)

LF Adam Klein

RF Mike Massaro

DH Cristian Guerrero

C Craig Maddox

1B Christian Vitters

3B Brian Kolb

CF Drew Martinez

SS Zac Mitchell

2B Nick Liles

RHP Osvaldo Rodriguez (1-1, 5.83 ERA)

7:32 p.m.: Dwarf wrestling over, tarp still on the field. New start time appears to be 8:30 p.m.

8:15 p.m.: Make that 8:45 p.m for a new start. Field dry is being added to the dirt and the RailCats are in left field playing catch and stretching. The rain appears to have stopped and the radar indicates most of it will move south of U.S. Steel Yard.

Third inning

Dwight Childs singles between first and second for the first hit by the Saints. Childs is out as Dan Kaczrowski grounds out to short, but Kaczrowski is safe at first as the throw pulls Vitters off the bag. Adam Frost hits a sac bunt to move Kaczrowski to second. Joey Becker walks. Brad Boyer grounds out to first. Mid 3rd inning: RailCats 2, Saints 0

Adam Klein strikes out looking. Mike Massaro singles past two diving fielders (pitcher and second); he's 2-for-2 tonight. Cristian Guerrero grounds out to first, Massaro is on second. Massaro takes third on a wild pitch. Craig Maddox grounds out to short. End 3rd inning: RailCats 2, Saints 0

Fifth inning

Dwight Childs flies out to left. Adam Klein runs into the bullpen to make the foul catch off the bat of Dan Kaczrowski. Adam Frost hits a home run to put the Saints on the board. Joey Becker is walked, he's seen 24 pitches tonight and walked in all three at bats. Brad Boyer singles, putting runners on the corners. That's it for Osvaldo Rodriguez, Morgan Coombs enters. Rodriguez had four walks, three to Becker. Willie Cabrera pops out to short. Mid 5th inning: RailCats 2, Saints 1

Nick Liles flies out to center field. Adam Klein doubles for his second hit of the game. Mike Massaro is intentionally walked. Cristian Guerrero grounds to short where Massaro is out at second, but the Saints fail to take out Guerrero at first. Craig Maddox grounds out to short, where Guerrero is now out at second. End 5th inning: RailCats 2, Saints 1

Sixth inning

The ball hit by Brandon Tripp bounces off first base and into right field, good for a leadoff double. Ole Sheldon strikes out looking. Jose Hernandez singles to score Tripp. On the first pitch to Dwight Childs, Hernandez is caught stealing second base. Childs flies out to shallow right. Mid 6th inning: RailCats 2, Saints 2

Christian Vitters singles into shallow right. Vitters is caught stealing on the basepaths. Brian Kolb grounds out to third. Drew Martinez doubles for his second two-out hit. Zac Mitchell grounds back to the mound. End 6th inning: RailCats 2, Saints 2

Seventh inning

Dan Kaczrowski strikes out swinging. So does Adam Frost. And Joey Becker. 12 pitches, three strikeouts. 7th-inning stretch: RailCats 2, Saints 2

New St. Paul pitcher is Mikey Mehlich, a righty. Nick Liles pops out to third base. Adam Klein strikes out and Mike Massaro grounds out to second. End 7th inning: RailCats 2, Saints 2

Eighth inning

New 'Cats pitcher is Estevan Uriegas. Brad Boyer singles into the dirt at second. Willie Cabrera strikes out swinging. Brandon Tripp singles to put runners on the corners. That's it for Uriegas, who is replaced by Ian Durham. Ole Sheldon strikes out swinging. Jose Hernandez breaks his bat, but he's still out with a pop out to third. Mid 8th inning: RailCats 2, Saints 2

Cristian Guerrero is walked and he's replaced on the bag by Ryan Brockett. Craig Maddox is walked. Willie Cabrera slips on the grass and still makes the out in left field on the fly ball off the bat of Christian Vitters. Brian Kolb flies out to deep left, moving Brockett to third. Drew Martinez walks to load the bases. Matt Meyer enters the game for the Saints. Ryan Babineau enters to pinch hit. Babineau singles home Brockett and Maddox. Nick Liles singles to score Martinez as RailCats take three-run lead. Adam Klein grounds out to short. End 8th inning: RailCats 5, Saints 2

Ninth inning

RailCats have a ton of faith in Ian Durham as they leave Ryan Brockett in at short and Durham will become a hitter if the game goes to the bottom of the ninth. Also, we're starting the inning at 12:06 a.m., so apparently the American Association curfew rule is no longer in effect. Dwight Childs tries to bunt and it flies into a pop out at third. Dan Kaczrowski strikes out looking. Adam Frost flies out to left, that's it for the Saints. FINAL: RailCats 5, Saints 2
