GARY | The RailCats end their home stand as the interns end their jobs.
The RailCats internship program gives college students a chance to learn about the front office techniques of a minor league baseball team, and many participate or administer the mid-inning games that are played on the field.
The 'Cats, meanwhile, are hoping to win their third-straight series after Kansas City created a tie with a 4-1 win Tuesday.
Against Ethan Cole, Gary's heavy hitters should have an easier time connecting with the ball. Cole holds a 5.33 ERA and is 0-5 in four starts. He has allowed 72 hits and walked 12 in 54 innings.
The RailCats have made two games in two days involving the pitching staff. Today marks the release of James Adkins, who went five innings allowing six hits and four runs yesterday, for the addition of lefty Chuck Fontana.
Fontana pitched for the Las Vegas Train Robbers (in New Mexico, not Nevada) of the Pecos League, going 2-2 in 21 games this season with a 2.88 ERA in 34 1/3 innings.

AFTER THE GAME
Greg Tagert: "Game like today shows a couple of things. Certainly you never know, the players to quote those guys, where the champ of the night is going to come. Big moment in the game there with Chuck Fontana.
"Morgan Coombs, sailing through three innings, if you'd have told me he wasn't going to get through five I'd be surprised.
"I will say this, when Morgan Coombs is on the mound I always have a good feeling our club will play well behind him. That is a trait, his teammates rally around him. We were able to score those two runs and Fontana getting that strikeout on Molina ... big rip for the ballclub. That ballgame, at the time was 4-3 then, at the time bases loaded, as we had penciled in before the game if we had to go to anyone early, he was the guy. You can't replicate that in a simulated game, that's for sure.
"Ryan Brockett was seemingly involved in every rally and every run-scoring situation."
