GARY | The RailCats five wins in a row include victories against three different teams -- Sioux City, St. Paul and Kansas City -- who hold a collective record of 31 games below .500.
The T-Bones lead the league in home runs with 85, the RailCats are last with 15 (including yesterday's bomb by Cristian Guerrero, his first since June 7).
The RailCats released right-handed pitcher Osvaldo Rodriguez -- officially placing him on irrevocable waivers -- and activated Reid Fronk before the game. Fronk was acquired on July 31, but immediately placed on the inactive list, where he'd spent most of the year with El Paso.
Also, the 'Cats placed Ari Ronick on the inactive list, retroactive to July 22.

AFTER THE GAME
Greg Tagert: "We talked before the game that it was going to be tough. Runs were going to be at a premium and we did such a nice job recently against top-notch pitchers, Hamburger and Claggett from St. Paul and last night Garceau. The difference tonight is we make a mistake defensively and it really bit us. We didn't do a lot offensively to really get to Irvine. We had limited chances if any. The leadoff double by Brockett stands out where we weren't able to get anything done.
"(James Adkins) he has those outings where he's going to give us a chance, but the concern is the length of the outings, he's averaging just about that five-inning mark. It's one of the things we're going to discuss tonight. He's got the ability to pitch out of some tough situations, he showed tonight a couple times with runners on third with less than two outs. ... I think this is his fifth or sixth start and he's hitting that five-inning mark. It's a concern going forward if we have to go to that pen. As much as we talked about using four starters what does not work is short starts. You've got to have that 6 1/3, 6 2/3 or seven-inning mark each time. The ability to get big outs against big hitters, he has, and he's continued to show flashes of that. The biggest difference is that first couple three innings have been the easiest for him, but tonight he had to struggle."
