A Kokomo–based company says a state tax incentive aimed at attracting more movie and media production helped in its decision to produce an animated children's movie in Indiana. Bach Morris Technologies Corp. says almost all of the production's $2.4 million budget will be spent in the state, and the project will also create about 20 jobs.
Elkhart County Highlights Economic Development Over Past Year
Elkhart County economic development officials say the area attracted more than $245 million in investments in the past year, creating 4,700 jobs. The Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County is highlighting projects including Dometic Corp.'s $6.8 million project and a $3.5 million investment by All American Group of Elkhart and Middlebury.
Estridge Bows Out of Westfield Sports Project
The Estridge Companies says it is withdrawing its proposal to build a multiuse sports complex in the Hamilton County community of Westfield, but will still include a baseball stadium, parks and fitness facilities in its Symphony development. Estridge is one of three developers that submitted a proposal to build the complex as part of the city's efforts to become the family sports capital of America.
IU to Stop Operating Brown County Playhouse
Indiana University says it's closing the historic Brown County Playhouse and moving its summer theater program on–campus in Bloomington. IU says it made the decision because of the facility's "significant operating deficit." The Brown County Playhouse was donated to the Indiana University Foundation by Brown County businessman Andy Rogers.
IBRC Releases Labor Day Statistics
In honor of the Labor Day holiday, the Indiana Business Research Center in Indiana University's Kelley School of Business has compiled a list of facts and figures. As of July, there were 3.1 million people in Indiana's labor force. In 2009, all Indiana employees worked, on average, 34.6 hours each week and the average annual wage per job was $38,271.
Another Delay For Emmis Privatization Vote
Shares of Indianapolis–based Emmis Communications Corp. (Nasdaq: EMMS) were up more than 3 percent in late morning trading after the company again extended a deadline for shareholders to accept a buyout offer. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Smulyan is trying to take the company private and has set a new deadline of September 8 for shareholders to accept his offer of $2.40 per share.
Ports to Hold Foreign Trade Zone Sessions
The Ports of Indiana is planning two seminars next week to examine how businesses in areas around the state's two river ports could benefit from a streamlined U.S. Foreign–Trade Zone program. One session is set for Jeffersonville, and the other will take place in Evansville.

The Dubois County Area Development Corporation is searching for a new president. The organization's board has announced Bob Grewe is stepping down. He started in the position when the corporation was launched five years ago.
Hurco Q3 Loss Narrows
Indianapolis–based Hurco Companies Inc. (Nasdaq: HURC) is reporting a fiscal third quarter net loss of $1.17 million, compared to a loss of $1.23 million for the same period a year earlier. The machine tool maker also posted a 39 percent increase in revenue and a 58 percent jump in costs.
Summit Realty Buys Historic Downtown Indy Building
Summit Realty Group has purchased and will renovate a historic building in downtown Indianapolis for approximately $3.3 million. The company says it will use the top two floors for its headquarters and lease the bottom two levels. The four–story building was originally constructed in 1909 and has been vacant for 10 years.
Ivy Tech TRiO Program Grant Approved
Ivy Tech Community College–Northeast will be able to continue its TRiO Student Support Service Program through August 2015 after receiving a nearly $1.2 million federal grant. The institution's Muncie and Indianapolis campuses also received funding to continue existing programs.
Franklin College to Host International Conference
The World Society of Motivation Scientists and Professionals is bringing its annual conference to Franklin College in a couple weeks. The September 15–16 event will feature experts in motivation science from the United States, Europe and Canada.
