Two jobs announcements are helping build momentum in an Indiana city. Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith says the community once dubbed the "engineering capital" of General Motors Company is taking a global approach to its economic rebound. The city recently attracted jobs from Japan-based Keihin North America and Greenville Technology Inc., which will cut the ribbon on a multi-million dollar facility this afternoon. In an interview to air this weekend on Inside INdiana Business Television, Smith says overseas companies are finding it "advantageous" to invest in the American Midwest.

 

Indiana POET Plants Producing Corn Oil

The four POET LLC plants in Indiana are now producing corn oil. The facilities are among 25 POET biorefineries making the oil to meet "strong demand" in the biodiesel and feed markets.

 

International Center Expanding Reach

The International Center in Indianapolis is teaming with the Corporate Partnership for Economic Growth to help northern Indiana businesses attract and retain international talent. International Center Chief Executive Officer Diane Thomas says the move is part of a strategy to extend the center's reach.

 

Plan Aims to Develop New Drag Strip

Efforts are underway to develop a new drag strip in northwest Indiana. Michael Deutsch wants to secure funding to acquire property near Majestic Star Casino in Gary. He tells our partners at Lakeshore Public Radio the project has captured the interest of Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson and a pair of state legislators. Notre Dame, IU Med School Launching Dual Degree

The University of Notre Dame and the Indiana University School of Medicine have announced a new dual degree in global health. The joint Medical Doctor/Master of Science program is designed for medical students who want to practice medicine in underserved areas of the world.

 

Zimmer Technology Clears Federal Hurdle

Warsaw-based Zimmer Holdings Inc. has received a key clearance for a new guidance system to help with knee replacements. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given the manufacturer the go-ahead to market the technology.

 

Ivy Tech Requesting Funding For Upgrades

Ivy Tech Community College is appealing to the General Assembly for funding to cover several multi-million dollar upgrades to campuses throughout the state. The requests were recently presented by President Tom Snyder to the House Ways and Means Committee and total around $300 million.

 

ESPN to Broadcast From Butler

Butler University basketball is returning to the national spotlight this weekend. ESPN's College GameDay will broadcast from Hinkle Fieldhouse tomorrow ahead of Butler's game against Gonzaga.

 

LIDS to Supply Uniforms For Shrine Game

Indianapolis-based LIDS Team Sports will provide the uniforms for the 2013 East-West Shrine Game tomorrow in Florida. More than 115 college football players will also use practice and travel gear from the Indiana company.

 

Grants Aim to Improve Muncie Buildings

Several buildings in downtown Muncie will receive upgrades due in part to a million-dollar façade improvement program. The Star Press in Muncie reports 10 downtown buildings will share in $1 million in funding designed to spark private investment.

 

Cummins Names New VP

Columbus-based Cummins Inc. has appointed Jennifer Rumsey as vice president of engineering for the engine manufacturer's heavy and medium light duty products. She has led the heavy duty engineering operation at Cummins since 2010.
