The president of Energy Systems Network believes Indiana's diverse economy makes the state "a bit immune" to the immediate effects of potential massive federal spending cuts. Paul Mitchell, who served as an economic development and energy policy director for former Governor Mitch Daniels, says the state's defense-heavy regions would take the first hit from sequestration. Commission Approves New Evansville Hotel TIF District

Tourism Officials Pleased With 2012 Numbers

An Indiana tourism group is hoping for "more good news" this year after a new study reported a 3.5 percent increase in the state's hotel occupancy rate from 2011 to 2012. The Association of Indiana Convention & Visitors Bureaus says major events like the Super Bowl and a stronger corporate market let to the improvement.

Indianapolis-based First Internet Bancorp has been cleared to be listed on the Nasdaq Capital Market. Shares are expected to begin trading tomorrow under the symbol "INBK."

 

Programmer Eyeing New Fort Wayne Facility

Fort Wayne-based RetirementHomeTV Corp. is seeking abatement on plans for a new $1 million facility. The Journal Gazette reports the company provides cable services to senior housing facilities based on the shows and channels that residents prefer.

 

Vincennes to Renovate Residence Halls

Two Evansville-based construction companies have landed contracts to renovate residence halls at Vincennes University. The board of trustees has approved two projects at a total cost of $6.7 million.

 

Parking Meters Boost Indy Revenue

The Indianapolis Department of Public Works says the city brought in more than $2.5 million in revenue from parking meters last year. The department says that is more than seven times the amount collected in 2010 before establishing a partnership with ParkIndy to oversee the meters.

 

Bank Association Touts Community Service

The Indiana Bankers Association says a new study shows the state's financial institutions are "deeply involved' in community service. The organization says banks that responded to the survey reported nearly 500,000 hours of community service and approximately $30 million in charitable donations in 2012.

 

Regenstrief Names Informatics Center Director

The Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis has hired Titus Schleyer to lead the Center for Biomedical Informatics. He most recently served as an associate professor of dental public health at the University of Pittsburgh and was the co-director of the school's Biomedical Informatics Training Program.

 

Grace College Set For New Year of Orthopaedic Master's

Grace College in Winona Lake is preparing for the third year of a master's program focusing on the orthopaedic industry. Orthopaedic Regulatory and Clinical Affairs graduate courses are set to begin in May.
