Gary is being featured on an unflattering list. The northwest Indiana community is ranked 19th in Forbes' rankings of the 20 most miserable cities in the United States. The list is based on factors including crime, unemployment and weather.

 

Sun King Expanding Indiana Distribution

Indianapolis-based Sun King Brewing Co. is expanding its reach in Indiana through two new distribution agreements. The brewer has entered into deals with Valparaiso-based Indiana Beverage and North Vernon Beverage in southeast Indiana.

 

Hicks: Indiana Cuts Could be Deep

A Ball State University economist believes Indiana's share of automatic, across-the-board federal spending cuts known as sequestration would be about $2.4 billion. Mike Hicks says legislators lack the political will to make more gradual, "studied" reductions in spending. He says Indiana is "as exposed as any other state in the union" when it comes to the potential impact of sequestration. Painting Company Set to Begin at Grissom Aeroplex

Dean Baldwin Painting LP says work at its Grissom Aeroplex facility in Peru could start early next month. The Kokomo Tribune reports the Texas-based company has secured a contract with American Airlines and more than 150 employees could be on the job by the end of April.

 

IPFW Students to do Market Research in Morocco

More than one dozen Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne students and faculty members will spend their spring break in Morocco as part of an international business program. The group will be conducting market research for two northeast Indiana companies.

 

AT&T Touts Indiana Investment

AT&T Inc. says it has pumped more than $1.3 billion into its Indiana networks over the past two years. The communications company also says it made more than 1,100 upgrades to its wireless network throughout the state in 2012.

 

Meetings Set For 812 Area Code Hearings

The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor is slated to begin public hearings next month to detail upcoming changes to the 812 area code. The first of 10 hearings will be held in Terre Haute March 4 and the second in Bloomington March 7.

 

Greater Lafayette Commerce Plans D.C. Trip

Greater Lafayette Commerce plans to send 40 representatives to Washington D.C. this month to speak with the state's congressional delegation. The group will highlight economic growth in the region and make requests involving issues including student financial aid and new energy development.

 

Marsh Hires CFO

Indianapolis-based Marsh Supermarkets Inc. has named Michele Pascoe Chief Financial Officer. She most recently served in a similar role at Charming Shoppes/Fashion Bug Division in Pennsylvania.

A well-known central Indiana racetrack has signed a sponsorship agreement. Ivy Tech Community College will serve as title sponsor for the Indianapolis Speedrome.

 

Leading Index Ticks up

The Indiana Business Research Center says February's Leading Index for Indiana has risen slightly, compared to last month. The IBRC says consumer confidence increased slightly, but financial pressures such as rising gas prices are cutting into discretionary spending.
