The Indiana Health Industry Forum is hoping to boost international trade and export relationships through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce. IHIF Chief Executive Officer Kristin Jones says the Middle East nation's traditionally strong economy and research and development market make it an ideal partner. She says the partnership is part of an ongoing effort to be "engaged in the global economy."

Military Extends Zimmer Deal

The U.S. Department of Defense has exercised an option on a contract with Warsaw-based Zimmer US Inc. The $65.6 million deal involves orthopedic trauma implant technology.

ProLiance to be Acquired by Chicago Utility

An Illinois company has announced an agreement to acquire Indianapolis-based ETC ProLiance Energy. The deal with Exelon Corp. (NYSE: EXC) is expected to close in the second quarter of this year. ProLiance is expected to become part of Exelon's Constellation subsidiary.

Venture Club Honors 'Dr. K'

Indiana University professor Donald Kuratko has received the Cy Smith Spirit of Entrepreneurship Award from the Venture Club of Indiana. "Dr. K" serves as executive director of the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Indiana University's Kelley School of Business.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced Indiana will receive nearly $5 million in preparedness grants. The majority of the funding will be used for statewide programs and the rest is marked for initiatives in the Indianapolis area.

Hearings Set on Proposed Water Rate Hike

Indiana American Water Co.'s proposed rate hike will be the topic of public meetings next month in Gary and Franklin. The Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor field hearings will examine the utility's plan to raise nearly $20 million for infrastructure modernization projects.

Community Foundation Announces Grants

The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne has announced more than $1.4 million in grants to Allen County nonprofits. The awards include funding for economic education, public radio and mentoring programs.

Weather Continues to Weigh on Building Permits

The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis says new, single-family building permits posted a slight increase in February compared to the same month the previous year. The nine-county organization says harsh weather continues to be a "huge factor" in permit numbers.
