While Indianapolis' compact, connected downtown has made it a favorite for events such as the NCAA Final Four, it represents a new experience for a Super Bowl. Indianapolis is hosting what has been billed as "the most urban Super Bowl ever," and the results could give the NFL a new model for the mega event. 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee Chairman Mark Miles said he doesn't think there are too many places in the country that could replicate the concept.
Brat wins competition for Indiana 'Super Sandwich'
The Super 46 Sandwich competition has crowned its champion. The Schnitzelbank Restaurant's Bratwurst in Jasper topped the Mile High Club from Rock Cola ’50s Cafe in Indianapolis. The competition was designed to bring attention and business to restaurants in Indiana.
Cummins reports record profit in 2011 earnings
Columbus-based Cummins Inc. said last year was its best year ever, with a record profit of $1.85 billion. Cummins also is reporting a 51 percent jump in fourth quarter net income, compared to the same period the previous year.
Indiana University touts top-selling license plate
Indiana University said its license plate was the top-selling specialty plate in the state last year. The school said more than 48,000 IU plates were sold in 2011.
Panel may deliver 'most connected' Super Bowl
The 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee said it's nearing a goal of making the high-profile event the "most connected" in history. The committee reports its website has attracted more than 2 million unique visitors in the past 30 days and is averaging more than 100,000 per day this week.
Farmer cooperative gives $105K to teacher initiative
The Indianapolis-based National FFA Organization said it has received a major contribution for a special campaign focused on the need for more agricultural high school teachers. CHS Inc., of Minnesota, is providing nearly $105,000 to the National Teach Ag Campaign.
Jeffersonville company sold to Chartis U.S. Inc.
A Miami private equity firm has sold Jeffersonville-based Service Net. The extended warranty company has been acquired by Chartis U.S. Inc., which is a subsidiary of American International Group Inc.
Lafayette school planner company buys competitor
Lafayette-based School Datebooks Inc., which makes custom planners for schools, has acquired The Student Planner LLC in Colorado. The Tippecanoe County company said Student Planner's operations will remain in Denver.
Chamber seeks nods for HR Professional of the Year
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce is looking for the next Human Resources Professional of the Year. Nominations are being accepted through March 23 for people who have made significant contributions to their employer.
Dow AgroSciences' 4Q profit doubles this year
Indianapolis-based Dow AgroSciences LLC, a unit of Dow Chemical Co., said its fourth quarter profit jumped to $145 million from $72 million during the same period a year ago. The biotech company also said it had record fourth quarter sales of $1.3 billion, up 5 percent.
Trine University names a new VP for planning
Trine University has promoted David Wood to vice president for academic resources and planning. Wood has been the dean of Trine's School of Professional Studies since 2009.
