INSIDE INDIANA BUSINESS: Really Cool Foods closes its doors

The Really Cool Food Co. LLC said it has closed its facility in Cambridge City. President Steve West said attempts to sell the business over the last three months have not been successful. A filing with the state shows the closing affects about 130 workers. Really Cool Foods opened in Wayne County in 2008 with plans for $24 million in investment and 1,000 jobs.

 

Lawyer donates millions

A founding partner of a prominent Indiana law firm is making the largest donation ever to the Indiana University School of Law — Indianapolis. Robert H. McKinney is giving $24 million to the school, and through an Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis fundraising campaign, the total value of the gift is $31.5 million. The money will help fund five endowed chairs at the school, which will be renamed the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. McKinney helped start Bose McKinney & Evans LLP and served as chairman and CEO of First Indiana Corp. until his retirement in 2005.

 

$23M hospital in the works

Community Health Network said it's partnering with Centerre Healthcare in Nashville to build a $23 million inpatient rehabilitation hospital. The 60-bed facility will be located on the northeast side of Indianapolis and serve neurological, stroke and traumatic injury patients.

 

State issues medical report

The Indiana State Department of Health said its most reported medical error in 2010 was a stage three or four pressure ulcer after hospital admission. The department has released its 2010 report, which also includes 33 cases of foreign objects retained in patients after surgery.

 

Ball State offers savings

Ball State University is introducing four initiatives it said can save students about $6,000 during their college careers. One of the programs is a $500 Completion Scholarship, which the school said will be available to Hoosier students on track to earn degrees within four years.

 

GM plant recycles waste

General Motors Co. said the Fort Wayne Assembly Plant is its first U.S. facility to reuse or recycle all the waste created in daily operations. The automaker said the facility generated more than $2 million in recycling revenue last year.

 

Diabetes battle costs state

State health and business leaders are launching an effort to tackle diabetes' $4 billion impact on Indiana's economy. The inaugural Stop Diabetes Think Tank was held this past week in Indianapolis. The American Diabetes Association said the annual costs related to the disease come in several areas including workplace productivity and health care expenses.

 

Zimmer to establish facility

Warsaw-based Zimmer Holdings Inc. said it will open a research and development center in Beijing. The company said the center will lay the groundwork for a network of programs across the Asia Pacific region.

 

Start-up to move to Ind.

A Florida-based pharmaceutical systems company said it will move its headquarters from Florida to South Bend. Triskell said it plans to begin operations at Innovation Park early next year.

 

Aerospace firm to hire

AAR Corp. said it hopes a weekend job fair will help the company fill 200 openings at its Indianapolis International Airport operations. The company said it is looking for aircraft mechanics and entry-level support technicians at the event at a Vincennes University facility near the airport.

 

Marion mourns deaths

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the plane crash that killed a prominent Indiana businessman and three others. Ray Harris owned a Jeep and Chrysler dealership in Marion and was the city's former Board of Works president. WISH-TV reported his two daughters and another passenger also were killed in the Nov. 26 crash in suburban Chicago.

 

Song heralds Super Bowl

The hospitality industry in Indianapolis continues to push forward with efforts to leverage next year's Super Bowl into more business. Officials have created a song called "Indy Super Bowl Shuffle" and posted a video on YouTube. The take on the 1985 Chicago Bears foray into the rap music business highlights several downtown Indianapolis hotels. The Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association said the video has been emailed to meeting planners in Chicago and will be featured prominently at a key industry trade show next week in the Windy City.
