Four Hoosiers, including Crown Point's Dean White, are on this year's Forbes' list of the Richest People in America. They include the co-founder of a medical device company, real estate executives and a pro sports franchise owner. White is No. 296 on the list


Partnership Targets Physician Shortage

The University of Evansville believes a new partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine will help address a physician shortage in southern Indiana. The Baccalaureate to Doctor of Medicine program will allow a select number of students who complete their undergraduate degree at UE to be guaranteed a spot at the IU med school's Evansville campus. Coordinator Kristy Miller says the program will allow students to connect to training and job opportunities at the region's hospitals. Cummins Announces New Engine

Columbus-based Cummins Inc. has unveiled a new heavy-duty engine that will be produced in China beginning next year. Steve Chapman, vice president of the company's Chinese subsidiary, says the platform is a "vivid demonstration" of Cummins' global presence.


Algae Producer Strikes Biotech Deal

Indianapolis-based Algaeon Inc. has inked a multi-million dollar deal with a Florida company. The agreement calls for the algae producer to develop manufacturing processes for Valensa International LLC.


Spafford Picked for Cyber Security Hall of Fame

One of the top cyber security experts in the nation is receiving two more prominent honors. Purdue University Computer Science Professor Eugene Spafford will be inducted next month into the National Cyber Security Hall of Fame. Also, a not-for-profit organization has selected Spafford for a lifetime achievement award.


Ritz Names Teacher of The Year Finalists

Ten teachers have been named finalists for the 2014 Indiana Teacher of the Year award. Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz will announce the winner next month.


Study Details Starting Salaries for Rose-Hulman Grads

An online salary information company ranks Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the top 10 for median starting salary for university graduates. PayScale says Rose-Hulman is seventh in the country at $65,100.


McAlister's Adding Indiana Locations

A McAlister's Deli franchisee is planning to develop 14 new locations in the state. McIndy Ventures LLC says the first restaurant should open in the fourth quarter of 2014. The company already operates 16 restaurants.


Putnam County Airport Lands FAA Grant

The Putnam County Airport has been approved for a more than $3.5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The Greencastle Banner-Graphic reports the money will help fund runway improvements.
