Individuals will be able to apply for and enroll in health coverage under the federal Affordable Care Act through the Health Insurance Marketplace beginning Oct. 1.

The insurance marketplace is located online at The website is managed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The site is designed to simply the search for health coverage by gathering into one Internet location the health insurance options available in an individual’s area and allowing for comparison shopping based on price, benefits, quality, and other features.

Those with questions about the marketplace will find a wide range of general information at the website, as well, including FAQs.

For those who prefer to speak by telephone with someone about the marketplace the government maintains a 24/7 Marketplace Call Center at (800) 318-2596 (TTY at 855-889-4325).

Additionally, the website includes a section for small business owners, providing information on the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) for providing employee health coverage.
