National Consumer Protection Week is an annual campaign by government agencies, consumer advocacy organizations, and private-sector groups across the United States to encourage consumers nationwide to take full advantage of their consumer rights and make better-informed decisions.

NCPW has been celebrated for the past 15 years. It will take place this year from March 3–9

The week includes consumer-oriented events and free consumer protection information-sharing.

Central to disseminating NCPW consumer information is the website resource, www.ncpw.gov. The site offers ideas for individuals to promote the week in their communities and share consumer information.

The website also provides consumers with online information on a wide range of consumer topics, including through blogs by consumer protection experts.

A few examples of topics presented at the site include dealing with debt collectors, choosing the right credit card, preventing and dealing with overdraft fees, shopping for used cars and avoiding card skimming at ATMs or other money machines.

Consumers can subscribe at the site to receive future emails from NCPW partners.

Subscription examples include "BBB Consumer Tips," "FDIC Updates" and email updates from OnGuardOnline.gov (the federal government’s website designed to help consumers be safe, secure, and responsible online).

Links are available at the website, as well, for those wishing to order publications directly from NCPW partners, such as the FTC or FDIC.
