MUNSTER | For the fourth year, Community Hospital has received the Outstanding Patient Experience award from Healthgrades, a company that evaluates hospitals and physicians nationwide.

The distinction places Community Hospital among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for patient experience.

“Our patients are at the center of everything we do,” CEO Donald P. Fesko said. “It is especially gratifying to see that the hard work and commitment of our physicians and healthcare professionals has been recognized as being among our nation’s best.”

Healthgrades evaluated Community Hospital’s performance as assessed by the hospital’s patients across 27 questions involving 10 measures.

Ranging from cleanliness and noise levels in a patient room to factors such as pain management and responsiveness to patients' needs, the measures also include whether a patient would recommend this hospital to friends or family.

Healthgrades evaluated 3,582 hospitals that submitted patient surveys to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, covering admissions from March 2012 – April 2013.

To be eligible for the Healthgrades 2014 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, hospitals had to meet additional clinical quality requirements. The top 15 percent of this national group, or 447 hospitals, achieved the 2014 award.

Community Hospital is one of 10 recipient hospitals in Indiana.
