HOBART | People in need of health insurance can learn what is available and how to enroll during free programs, sponsored by Franciscan Alliance, in January and February at Southlake Mall.

Kim Eldridge, a representative of MDwise Hoosier Alliance insurance provider, will offer information on coverage options and assist with the enrollment process.

Sessions will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 30 and 31 and 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 7 at the Franciscan Alliance display in the JCPenney store court on the mall’s first floor.

Mardi Gras ball on Feb. 15 will benefit Methodist foundation

MERRILLVILLE | Methodist Hospitals Foundation will host its annual Mardi Gras ball on Feb. 15 at Radisson Star Plaza, 800 E. 81st Ave.

Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a Mardi Gras parade, Bourbon Street Arcade, a dinner and presentation of the court and coronation.

This year, the foundation will work to raise money in support of children’s health care in Northwest Indiana.

Tickets are $125 or $25 for a dessert buffet. There will be a cash bar after 9 p.m.

Participants should wear formal attire and a mask.

IU Health offers cardiovascular screenings in three counties

LAPORTE | Indiana University Health hospital is offering discounted cardiovascular screenings in LaPorte, Marshall and Starke counties.

Upcoming Heart Cart visits include 7:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at IU Health LaPorte Heart & Vascular Center, 901 Lincolnway, Suite 103, LaPorte, and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at IU Health Starke Hospital, 102 E. Culver Road, first floor conference room, Knox.

Registration is required in advance. The cost is $50. To offer this service at a discount, IU Health does not bill insurance. Participants are responsible for payment in full.

The screenings are provided in part by the LaPorte Hospital Foundation.

They test for abnormal heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, blood pressure, fasting cholesterol and glucose levels, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, poor leg circulation, stroke and weight.

Participants can schedule a Vertical Auto-Profile cholesterol screening for an additional $39. 

Porter Regional to present programs about heart health

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | In celebration of February as American Heart Month, Porter Regional Hospital will present a series of heart-healthy programs to help educate the community on the prevention and treatment of heart disease.

The free presentations will take place in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 E. U.S. 6. Registration is required in advance. To register, call (800) 541-1861.
