EAST CHICAGO | Northwest Indiana Healthy Start will host its seventh annual A Stroll In The Park community event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday at Tod Park, West 140th Street and McShane Avenue.
Families are encouraged to walk together or stroll with their babies around the park path.
The free event will include free blood pressure and glucose screenings, giveaways, free haircuts, informational health booths and a DJ.
Discounted sports physicals
LAPORTE | Indiana University Health Sports Medicine, in conjunction with the Purdue University North Central Athletics Department, will offer sports physicals for the upcoming school year from 3-7 p.m. Aug. 20 in Room 144 of the LSF Building at the Purdue North Central Campus.
All area middle and high school students who want to participate in athletic programs during the coming school season are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity.
The cost is $10. Physicals are open to any student-athlete regardless of age or school.
Athletes are asked to pick up the appropriate forms and materials at their school with all appropriate signatures and have the forms completed prior to their physical.
Walking group focus on falls
CALUMET CITY | The Ingalls Center Steppers Mall Walkers Club will meet from 8-10 a.m. Aug. 20 at River Oaks Mall, 96 River Oaks Center Drive.
Free blood pressure screenings will be available. A meeting, focused on fall prevention, will last from 9-9:30 a.m. Center Steppers meets near the food court.

MUNSTER | Dr. Saadia Alvi has joined Franciscan Medical Specialists Department of Endocrinology.
She is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in endocrinology.
Alvi practices at the Munster Medical Center, 761 45th Street. She also practices at the Franciscan Medical Specialists Valparaiso office, 1101 Glendale Road.
She is accepting new patients and can treat endocrinology disorders including diabetes, thyroid disorders, growth and development disorders, blood sugar irregularities, osteoporosis and unexplained weight gain.

Support group receives lung education
FLOSSMOOR | The Ingalls Better Breathers Club will meet Aug. 13 at the Ingalls Family Care Center.
The free support group, which offers education on topics relating to lung disease and lung health by experts in the field, will gather from 6-7:30 p.m. in suite 2400 in the center, 19550 Governors Highway.
The group is intended for patients and their families.
