GARY | The Lake County Minority Health Coalition, in partnership with The Indiana Minority Health Coalition, will host its annual Black History and Health Celebration on March 28.
The event will last from 10 a.m. to noon at the Public Safety Building, 555 Polk St., in Gary. Keynote speaker Dr. Janet Seabrook from Gary Community Health Net will touch on diseases that plague the minority population, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.
Entertainment will be provided by the Who So Ever Choir and Emerson Jazz Band. Lunch will be provided at no cost.

Franciscan Alliance offers mammogram screenings
MICHIGAN CITY | A MAMMOthon program, consisting of digital mammogram screenings, free chair massages and giveaways, will take place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Michigan City, 301 W. Homer St.
The program will take place in the hospital’s Breast Imaging Center, on the first floor.
A limited number of chair massages will be available. Participants also may enter a drawing for an iPad mini.
Mammogram appointments are required and a limited number are available. Screening cost is covered by most insurance companies. No physician referral is required for this program.

Free colorectal cancer screening kits available
Free colorectal cancer take-home screening kits are available for the public to pick up at a variety of locations in LaPorte, Marshall and Starke counties through March.
