LIBERTY TOWNSHIP | Porter Regional Hospital this month will host a free wellness program about hemorrhoids and another about preventing and managing osteoporosis.

Family medicine physician Dr. Derek Gasper will discuss how to prevent or slow the process of bone loss at 6 p.m. today.

At 6 p.m. on May 15, general surgeons Drs. Adam Conn and Roland Thomas will discuss a new minimally invasive outpatient procedure to treat hemorrhoids.

Both programs will be in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 E. U.S. 6 in Valparaiso.

Seniors to focus on exercises

HAMMOND | The public is invited to a meeting Thursday of the Franciscan Senior Promise group.

Exercises You Can Do at Home will be the program topic, which will be demonstrated by Jane Bogordos of Franciscan Omni Health and Fitness in Schererville.

The meeting will be at 10 a.m. at the hospital, 5454 Hohman Ave. Attendees should check at the hospital’s information desk in the front lobby to learn the meeting room location.

Franciscan Senior Promise, a program of Franciscan St. Margaret Health, is a club that offers people ages 55 and older information on health issues and advice on lifestyles choices, along with the opportunity to socialize and make new acquaintances.

Stroke awareness Saturday

FLOSSMOOR | Ingalls Health System is hosting a free stroke awareness fair Saturday at the Ingalls Family Care Center to educate residents about the risk factors, signs and symptoms of stroke.

Highlights include education about stroke risk factors and prevention, mini-massages, a stroll on the health center’s marked walking path, kids activities, healthy snacks, blood pressure, body mass index and weight screenings.

Skin cancer screening May 15

MICHIGAN CITY | Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Michigan City will offer free skin cancer screenings at two of its locations May 15.

The program, conducted by Dr. Michael O’Donoghue, a board-certified dermatologist, will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Woodland Cancer Care Center, 8955 W. 400 North, and from 1 to 3 p.m. at Chesterton Health and Emergency Center, 770 Indian Boundary Road, Chesterton.
