GARY | Indiana University Northwest will host a wellness fair and blood drive today on campus. 

The Indiana University Northwest School of Nursing will offer health screenings from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the Savannah Center lobby. 

Available services include lab work, free health screenings and health information. 

Lab workups include, but are not limited to: a health profile, hemoglobin A1C (diabetes screen), thyroid-stimulating hormone and prostate-specific antigen screenings.

Free health screenings include blood pressure screenings and bone density tests.

Lab work will be conducted between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Those participating in the health profile must fast for 12 hours and may drink only black coffee or water during the fast. 

The health profile lab work is $20 for community members and IUN faculty and staff, and $17 for students with a valid student ID.

Prices vary for additional lab work. Payment is due the day of the test. Only cash or checks will be accepted. Appointments are not necessary. 

In conjunction with the fair, the Student Nurses Association will sponsor an American Red Cross blood drive from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Moraine Student Center.

Gout clinic opens in Munster

MUNSTER | Franciscan Medical Specialists has opened a new gout clinic  in Franciscan Healthcare – Munster hospital, 701 Superior Ave., Suite O.

Clinic director and rheumatology specialist Dr. Kevin Joyce is trained in the diagnosis and treatment of gout, including resistant or recalcitrant gout. 

Gout is a form of arthritis that causes sudden, severe episodes of pain, tenderness, redness, warmth and swelling of joints.

Holiday concert slated Dec. 14

LAPORTE | Tickets for the 19th annual La Porte Hospital Foundation Holiday at the POPS are on sale. 

This philanthropic concert event takes place Dec. 14 at the La Porte Civic Auditorium, 1001 Ridge St. Doors open at 6 p.m. Central time, with the concert starting at 7. 

Main floor tickets are sold out. Balcony seats are available at $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 12 and under. Group sales also are available. Buy 10 tickets and get the 11th free, plus reserved group seating options.

The concert features a variety of local talent including the La Porte County Symphony Orchestra, directed by Philip Bauman.

Entertainment will also be provided by guest artists, including vocalists Shania Povlock and Sarah Gartshore, the Illumination chorus and Cripple Creek, a vocal ensemble. 

Proceeds benefit the foundation’s VNA Fund, which supports Indiana University Health La Porte VNA Services, and other philanthropic health care needs.
