MERRILLVILLE | A local orthopedic surgical center will host a health insurance seminar at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Bone and Joint Specialists, 9001 Broadway, will host How to Understand the Language of your Insurance.

Lenora Pickett will explain deductibles, out of pocket maximums, co-pays, co-insurance, HMOs, PPOs and POSs.

This presentation also will address the senior community, to help them better understand the difference between Medicare and a Medicare Replacement Plans.

Presentation on hip pain set in Munster

MUNSTER | A presentation focusing on hip pain is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. today at Centennial Park Clubhouse, 1005 S. Centennial Drive. 

Hip Pain: Solutions for Active Adults will focus on hip pain treatment options, including physical therapy, arthroscopy, total hip replacement and hip revision surgery.

Specialists from Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush will speak. The seminar is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Evening of Beauty set in Michigan City

MICHIGAN CITY | Franciscan Alliance’s Franciscan Physician Network will host Evening of Beauty on Wednesday.

The program, featuring a 6 p.m. presentation by Dr. Chad Glazer, an ear, nose and throat and facial plastic surgeon, will take place at the Coolspring Health Center, 1225 E. Coolspring Ave.

Glazer will discuss the latest techniques for helping participants look their best, including skin care, fillers and surgical options. Free skin care consultations will be provided by Obagi Medical, which will offer a 25 percent discount on items purchased at the event.

Health, diabetes education fair set for Saturday

MICHIGAN CITY | Franciscan St. Anthony Health hospital in Michigan City will host a free diabetes education and health fair from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday at its Coolspring Health Center, 1225 E. Coolspring Ave. (entrance C).

Lyn Stevens, a doctor of nurse practice, will present a program at 9 a.m. exploring the connection between diabetes and heart disease.

Screenings will be available for cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, glaucoma (offered by the local Lions Club) and bone density. Nutrition information also will be offered, along with refreshments and giveaways.

Lowell woman honored for excellence

LOWELL | American Senior Communities recently honored key employees, including a Lowell woman, with the coveted Quest for Excellence award.

Gena Grimmer, a certified nursing assistant at Lowell Healthcare, was among 62 employees honored at a recent dinner.

The award honors one employee from each of the 62 communities operated statewide by American Senior Communities.

The employee must have consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence, dedication to his or her job, a positive attitude and a “whatever it takes” passion for customer service.
