MUNSTER | Roz Varon, the traffic and transportation anchor for ABC television in Chicago, will be the guest speaker at the sixth annual Share the Love event Feb. 13 at the Center for Visual & Performing Arts in Munster, 1040 Ridge Road.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Cancer Resource Centre in conjunction with the auxiliaries of Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center, the luncheon will center on Varon’s career and her inspirational story as a breast cancer survivor.
She works with the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides against Breast Cancer."
From 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., vendor tables will offer boutique items for sale with a portion of those proceeds also benefiting the Cancer Resource Centre.
Seats are $50 per person, and reservations must be made by Feb. 7. Lunch will be served at noon. Net proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Cancer Resource Centre in Munster.

Local medical providers recognized for quality and service
Several medical provider offices recently were honored with a Star Performer Award from MDwise, Indiana’s only nonprofit managed health care organization serving Hoosiers covered by the Hoosier Healthwise, Healthy Indiana Plan and Care Select health programs.
The following providers were recognized: ABC Pediatrics, 6750 Calumet Ave., Hammond; Hammond Family Services, 5530 Hohman Ave., Hammond; Dr. Michael Luongo, 929 Ridge Road, Munster; and Dr. Azra Sheriff at the Children & Family Health Clinic, 9128 Columbia Ave., Munster.
The offices received this recognition for going above and beyond to provide high levels of quality and service to patients.
MDwise sought out specific criteria when selecting the Star Performer honorees, including achieving measures of clinical performance, best practice implementation, patient outreach and compassion, as well as having a shared passion for quality throughout the office.
USF Crown Point to offer new technician degree
CROWN POINT | The University of Saint Francis is accepting enrollment for a new Associate of Science-Medical Laboratory Technician degree program.
The degree provides an option for students interested in health sciences careers. The degree also provides students a basis for advancement to baccalaureate and graduate degrees.
The clinical laboratory science/medical technology program has a long tenure at the bachelor degree level at the main University of Saint Francis campus in Fort Wayne, and the Crown Point associate degree draws from that expertise and academic tradition.
