KidFit Camp to focus on health, nutrition
FLOSSMOOR | Parents concerned about their child's health, nutrition or weight can register their child for Ingalls KidFit Camp. The camp will last from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays -- starting this Monday -- through Aug. 12 at the Ingalls Family Care Center, 19550 Governors Highway.
The cost is $250, and registration can be made by calling (708) 915-8850. A physician referral is required.
The program combines the efforts of a fitness expert, dietitian and psychologist. It is designed to help 8- to 13-year-old children and their parents establish safe, healthy nutrition and lifestyle habits. Kids and parents will learn about healthy portion sizes, fats, sugars, calories and other terms to help them understand food labels.
Anniversary gala to feature Payton
GARY | Jarrett Payton, former NFL player and son of the late Walter Payton, will be the voice of the Community HealthNet 15th Year Anniversary Gala and Fundraiser June 21 at the Marquette Pavilion, 1 North Grand Blvd.
Cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m., and the dinner and program begin at 7 p.m. A $100 donation will reserve a spot at the event. Reservations must be made by Wednesday and can be set by calling (219) 951-4883.
Entertainment will be provided by Gary vocalist and winner of Chicago Windy City Live’s Search for a Star, Glen Kimble.
The gala will celebrate 15 years of service and help raise money in support of the organization's programs and services in the community.
Physician to provide cardiology services
MUNSTER | Dr. Arijit Dasgupta has joined the Department of Cardiology at Franciscan Hammond Clinic.
He is board certified in internal medicine and interventional cardiology.
Dasgupta is on staff with Chicago Heart and Vascular Consultants and will provide services in interventional cardiovascular medicine.

Families invited to Alzheimer's conference
MERRILLVILLE | The Alzheimer's Association will host its spring caregiver conference June 28 at Avalon Manor Banquet Center, 355 E. U.S. 30.
The association invites family members of those living with dementia as well as professionals to explore communication and behavioral management around people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
The first session, "Managing Behavior: Start With Yourself," will help caregivers recognize and appreciate the effect their behaviors, words, actions and reactions have on people living with dementia.
Other sessions will address music therapy, hands-on skills and humor in caregiving. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., and door prizes will be handed out at 3:00 p.m. There is a registration fee of $25 for family members and $60 for professionals. The fee will cover refreshments, lunch and conference materials.
