HARVEY | An independent health care ratings organization has ranked Ingalls Memorial Hospital in the top 5 percent of hospitals in the country for clinical performance.

Ingalls is a 2013 recipient of the Healthgrades “America’s 100 Best” Award, earning this designation for the second year in a row.

To be recognized with the America’s 100 Best distinction, hospitals must have had risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates that were in the top 5 percent in the nation for a minimum of four years studied.

On average, patients treated at such hospitals had nearly a 30 percent lower risk of death.

“This exceptional achievement, attained for two years in a row, is a credit to everyone at Ingalls Memorial Hospital,” said Kurt Johnson, Ingalls president and CEO. “It is a direct reflection of our continued commitment to provide superior patient care and deliver clinical outcomes that are among the best in the nation. At Ingalls, our focus is on quality 100 percent of the time, and it shows.”

The hospital also received the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award in Clinical Excellence for seven years in a row and was a five-star recipient for the treatment of heart failure for 11 years in a row.

For the first time, Ingalls has been named one of “America’s 100 Best Hospitals” for orthopedic surgery and is ranked No. 2 in Illinois for overall orthopedic services (fourth for spine surgery and sixth for joint replacement).

In all, Ingalls was cited for excellence in more than two dozen clinical areas, including heart attack care, respiratory failure, pneumonia, emergency medicine, pulmonary services, critical care and orthopedics.
