MERRILLVILLE | An anticipated new co-management arrangement between Methodist Hospitals and IMA Endoscopy SurgiCenter would increase the number of endoscopic procedures Methodist conducts annually by more than 2,500.
Under the agreement, Methodist Hospitals would acquire the center and serve as co-manager. The center, 8895 Broadway, in Merrillville, employs six gastroenterologists, eight nursing and technical staff and three administrative staff, according to IMA.
IMA signed a letter of intent for the arrangement. It provides a way for the hospital and physicians to partner. Such partnerships will be key in the formation of accountable care organizations, a component of care delivery in the future.
“We are happy to have this opportunity to improve our facility and equipment and more closely align with Methodist Hospitals," said Dr. Daniel Hurwich, president of Digestive Medicine Associates, in a statement.
"This agreement provides the opportunity to deliver high quality, coordinated care with the focus on outstanding patient outcomes," he said. "Our co-management agreement is an arrangement where our physicians and Methodist Hospitals will share involvement in the daily operations of this service.”
