SCHERERVILLE | Diners have another reason to buy pizza and cheesecake from one Schererville eatery, as money from the sale will go to support a local cardiovascular research program.

February is American Heart Month. Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar and Community Healthcare System’s cardiovascular research program are partnering to raise funding and awareness for heart disease.

The restaurant, 625 W. U.S. 30, will donate $1 to the cardiovascular research program of Community Healthcare System for each pizza and flatbread sold during Pizza Week, Monday to Feb. 17. Boston’s heart-shaped pizzas also will be available Valentine’s week, Feb. 13 through 15.

The restaurant also will donate $1 for every red velvet cheesecake dessert ordered from the menu. Diners also have the option to buy paper hearts for $1 each during the “Spread the Love” campaign which runs through Feb. 17.

John Haberkamp, general manager of the restaurant, said the campaign is part of a nationwide effort. Each Boston's can donate to the charity of its choice.

Haberkamp said the restaurant wanted to support local research through a local hospital, partnering with Community. That way, the money stays in the community, he said.

The restaurant started selling paper hearts on Monday. Last year, Boston's in Schererville sold about 1,900 paper hearts and had another $500 in donations through pizza and desserts, Haberkamp said.

Through the Community Healthcare System cardiovascular research program, Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart offer new treatment options available only through clinical trials and studies.

Boston’s is open 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays.
